I spent the better part of 2001 in Hanoi working for the US Department of State and DOD. I lived in the Hilton hotel near Hoan Kiem Lake. I have been wanting to come back ever since I left. Although my Vietnamese language skills have faded, I am certain they will return quickly. I enjoy reading your posts.
you did an interesting article on importing wine-to vietnam
a friend of mine is now doing such from saigon-and would be interested in reading the article
I’ve only just started following this blog but it’s very interesting! My folks are from Vietnam (Hon Mieu Iskand off of Nha Trang) and I’ve been back to visit when I was 8 (I’m 22 now) and planning on what will most likely be a solo tour around Vietnam for 14 days (Hanoi to Saigon) and then to Hon Mieu to stay with family for 3 weeks. Your blog will be very useful to me when I’m touring the country.
Hear good things about you from a mutual friends in Mallorca Spain, (Rob and Katie)!
We really would love your opinion on the best way to book up a junk for a trip around Halong Bay in style for my other half Steve’s 50th birthday…..he doesn’t look as old as he sounds!, poor boy…
And perhaps we can catch-up for dinner and meet you both?
I’m a Hanoian living away from Hanoi for 8 years now – I came to read your blog and really liked what you wrote. And though I can’t read everything posted, I appreciate your commitment to Hanoi. Keep on blogging and please stay warm for the winter
Hello I came across your blog and was wondering if you could be of service. I am a American Viet that is living in Singapore working as a chef at a restaurant (Iggy’s) My time here is over and now its time for some travel. I have been only to vietnam once since taking refuge in the states 31 years ago when my parents escaped vietnam in 1980. I went this past feb and was only in HCMC. I have never seen Hanoi and very interested in traveling around the whole country but starting off in the north. I am interested in the culture, my people, and of course all the food i can consume in a day and in the whole trip.
I am writing to you if you can give me some advice on places to see and eat. Any kind of advice would be greatly appreciated! I enjoy you blog and a huge fan.
