Wet and Happy Hour

I’m a big person, my wife works in a kitchen, it’s fair to say that we both do a fair bit of sweating through a Hanoi summer.  This week has been a stinker.

It was most likely dehydration that caused Loan’s headache this afternoon but having failed to cure it was a glass or two of water we tried the coffee option and headed out to Don’s.  We hadn’t even noted the weather changing but by the time we stepped out the front door it seemed oddly dark and there was a breeze for the first time in days.

Storm!

With added impetus we motorbiked the two minute trip and had taken seats on the balcony by the time the first rain fell.

Later, coffee drank and headache gone there was no let up in the storm.  Bouyed by the positive news of earlier (see last update of previous blog) we decided to take advantage of happy hour.  Mojitos at Dons had been a feature of one of our earliest dates.

Two drinks down and the storm wasn’t going anywhere so we made a dash for it.  No water proofs, through floods, eyes half closed to filter the rain, we made it home laughing all the way.

Like Britain, Hanoi’s seasonal variations make weather a constant topic for conversation. Unlike Britain though, rain, initially at least, brings smiles.
