I’ve been following your blog for a long time back – the other blog when you were in Vietnam the first time and I just want to welcome you back. I’ll have to go back and read through your blog for update on what you are doing in Vietnam. Take care!

Steve, I’ve only just spotted the fact that you’re back. So pleased to hear it’s going well and looking forward to following your blog again.

Thanks Bob. It’s good to have some old readers along for the ride.

Yes life is good. It’s very strange in some ways to think…this is it. I chose to live here and to make it work.

It’s been a strange week – with a couple of downs too but one of the challenges to living overseas is to remember that the downs aren’t the fault of where you are.

But, in general, I still can’t believe how lucky I am to be here.

    Hello there,

I thought it was time I wrote something and stopped indulging in the voyeuristic pleasure I get out of reading your blog from the private confort of anonymity. The thing is, your posts often make my day. And that is the day of a VSO volunteer in Cameroon.

Thanks for keeping it up. I can relate to absolutly everything you say about your experience in Cameroon. Our experience in Yaoundé doesn’t seem to make any sense yet, we’re still totally high on frustration and sometimes even anger. Who would have thought this experience would bring out the worst in us (us, that is me, Julie, hi, and boyfriend Tom and our baby Mia).

We’ve been here 8 months now and our placements have both gone very wrong, doomed from the start, so they are ending and we are leaving VSO. But not Cameroon, having signed up for a job in Maroua… felt like we needed to stay longer and see what it felt like after frustrations had peaked…

We have spent time in Asia a few years ago and yearn to go back to Hanoi at some point. Maybe next stop…

I wish you well in Hanoi, say hi to Lynette and Jean when you come across them.

    All the best,

    Julie
